Unfortunately, pruning often involves working within a cold environment, repetitive forceful movements against resistance, awkward postures and little task variation, often resulting in common injuries listed below. On this page we have provided some tips and tricks that you can implement to help avoid injuries while pruning, whether it be on a vineyard or in your own backyard\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Common Injuries related to pruning include:<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Soft tissue bruising&nbsp;<\/li><li>Simple lacerations&nbsp;<\/li><li>Cramping to hand and forearm&nbsp;<\/li><li>Overuse tendinitis \u2013 such as&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.peninsulahandtherapy.com.au\/de-quervains-tenosynovitis\/\">De Quervains<\/a>, Flexor Tenosynovitis<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.peninsulahandtherapy.com.au\/carpal-tunnel-syndrome\/\">Carpal tunnel syndrome<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.peninsulahandtherapy.com.au\/trigger-finger\/\">Trigger finger\/thumb<\/a><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Recommendations:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>1.&nbsp;<strong>Gloves<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 for warmth and padding around the base of the thumb (i.e. cycling glove).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2.&nbsp;<strong>Warm up stretches<\/strong>&nbsp;before, during and after work day (see below).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.peninsulahandtherapy.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Screen-Shot-2023-06-13-at-11.01.20-am.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7435\" width=\"216\" height=\"271\" srcset=\"https:\/\/peninsulahandtherapy.com.au\/wp_dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Screen-Shot-2023-06-13-at-11.01.20-am.png 396w, https:\/\/peninsulahandtherapy.com.au\/wp_dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Screen-Shot-2023-06-13-at-11.01.20-am-240x300.png 240w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 216px) 100vw, 216px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>3. Have&nbsp;<strong>secateurs correctly sized<\/strong>&nbsp;for your hand before starting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>4. Use&nbsp;<strong>padding on handles<\/strong>&nbsp;to minimise mechanical pressure over the base of the thumb and the carpal tunnel and increasing the diameter of the handle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>5.
